Alejandro Cardenas (b. 1977, Santiago, Chile) received a BFA from Cooper Union in 2000. Prior to becoming a full-time studio painter, Cardenas had a successful career as a multimedia artist, working in illustration, graphic design, and videography, and served as the lead textile designer and art director for Proenza Schouler for over a decade. He was additionally a founding member of Lansing-Dreiden, a New-York based transdisciplinary collective that produced musical albums, a literary journal, and artworks. Cardenas’s work has been the subject of solo presentations at Almine Rech, New York and Paris (2022 and 2021); Stems Gallery, Brussels (2020); Harper’s, East Hampton and New York (2020 and 2019); Anat Egbi, Los Angeles (2019); and James Fuentes, New York (2010 and 2008). His work has been featured in New York Times, Vogue, and Flash Art, among other publications. Cardenas lives and works in Upstate New York.
