John Gossage (b. 1946, Staten Island, NY) is a photographer, bookmaker, and Guggenheim Fellowship recipient currently based in Washington, DC. Over the course of his nearly five-decade-long career, Gossage’s work has been featured in exhibitions at venues including Harper’s, New York and East Hampton (2016, 2012, 2009); Art Institute of Chicago (2014); Comune di Venezia, Venice, IT (2003); National Museum of American Art, Washington, DC (2001); St. Louis Museum of Art, St. Louis, MO (1994); Sprengel Museum, Hanover, DE (1998 and 1990); Leo Castelli, New York (1978 and 1974); and Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington (1976). Gossage’s work is held in numerous public and permanent collections including Australian National Gallery, Canberra; Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montreal; the Library of Congress, Washington; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Palazzo Fortuny, Venice.
